Why Disconnection Matters

Disconnected Youth are:

  • Nearly twice as likely to live in poverty.

  • Nearly four times as likely to have left high school without a diploma.

  • More than four times as likely to have a child as their connected counterparts (girls and young women).

  • Costing taxpayers $93 billion annually and $1.6 trillion over their lifetimes in lost revenues and increased social services.

  • Opportunities to gain knowledge and skills.

  • Opportunities to build diverse social networks.

  • Opportunities to build social capital.

  • Opportunities to share their gifts talents to their community and to the world.
